Frequently Asked Questions

There are many questions about CBD and Hemp Extract that we get asked often so we decided to put together a list of FAQs for those of you who want to learn more about this CBD and its properties and effects.

What Are the Benefits of CBD?

Let’s look now at some of the main areas where CBD research is focused in terms of potential therapeutic use.

CBD Oil Benefits For Pain

  • It’s no secret that we have a serious problem with the way that pain is treated in America. Often times, patients are prescribed the most powerful class of pain relief drugs (opioids), which can quickly result in dependence and overdose tragedies. It’s in the public’s best interest to find alternative pain medications that perhaps aren’t quite as strong as opioids, yet still effective.
  • IOne of the first stages of many medical trials is to observe how a certain compound effects mice and rats before moving to human trials. That’s about where CBD pain treatment research is today; and the most prominent of these studies has shown that CBD “significantly reduced” chronic inflammation in mice and rats. Inflammation is one of the primary causes of chronic (ongoing) pain; these initial results seem very promising with an eye toward reforming pain medication in our society.

CBD Oil Benefits For Skin

  • A major 2014 study showed that CBD almost certainly acts as a sebostatic agent and found several other anti-inflammatory effects as well. Sebostasis refers to the regulation of your skin’s oil production. Often, our bodies are simply not in balance in terms of the amount of oil (or lack thereof) being produced, which can result in a wide variety of undesirable dermatological conditions, the most obvious one being acne. This study showed very strong merit for the idea that CBD oil has anti-acne and anti-inflammatory properties in regards to its effect on skin.

CBD Oil Benefits For Anxiety

  • Here’s one of the main areas where CBD really differs from its psychoactive cousin THC: anxiety. For people who suffer from chronic anxiety, marijuana is probably not a good idea, as one of the most common side effects of THC is increased paranoia or anxiety. Curiously, however, CBD appears to have the complete opposite effect. A 2015 study in the medical journal Neurotherapeutics “found that existing preclinical evidence strongly supports CBD as a treatment for generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive–compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder when administered acutely.”

Other CBD Oil Benefits

  • The above three areas aren’t the only realms that researchers are excited about. Most prominently, CBD reached mainstream media notoriety recently for what appears to be a fairly solid correlation between CBD dosing and mitigation of seizures in childhood epilepsy. More research needs to be done, and nobody is recommending that CBD be a replacement for existing epilepsy treatments, but it may prove in the future to be part of a well-rounded treatment plan.
  • In addition, CBD currently has ongoing studies in terms of its potential efficacy in treating ailments including schizophrenia, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and nicotine cessation.

The Future Of CBD Medical Benefits
The standard for proof in terms of medical efficacy is extremely high. It takes years of repeatable, peer-reviewed research and data gathering before a responsible scientific consensus can be made about whether something “works” as a treatment. With that in mind, the proven benefits of CBD oil are few at this point, because research into its medical applications is still in its infancy.

That being said, the future looks incredibly bright for CBD as a natural treatment option or addition to an existing treatment regimen. So far, it appears that CBD oil side effects are basically negligible apart from drowsiness (in certain CBD dosages) and potential negative interaction with certain medications.

In the meantime, if you’re interested in trying CBD in conjunction with some of your existing medications, you should consult with your physician and make sure that CBD is a good fit for you before giving it a shot.

How Does CBD/Hemp Extract Work?

Studies have shown the existence of a system of cell receptors in your body called the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which spreads throughout the connective tissues and even into your organs. The cannabis family of plants contains compounds which interact specifically with this system and provide nutritional and therapeutic value that is unavailable to most other plants. More research is needed to figure out the total effects this compound has on our bodies.

What Is the Difference between CBD and THC?

Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are the two main ingredients in the marijuana plant. Both CBD and THC belong to a unique class of compounds known as cannabinoids.

  1. The High

THC is probably best known for being the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. CBD, however, is non-psychoactive. In other words, CBD can’t get you high.

  2. Anxiolytic

THC is known to cause some people to feel anxious or paranoid. CBD is believed to have the opposite effect.

  3. Antipsychotic

In addition to being non-psychoactive, CBD seems to have antipsychotic properties.

  4. Legal Status

While most countries have strict laws surrounding marijuana and THC, the legal status of CBD is less clear. The FDA of the United States considers hemp oil (and it’s derivative CBD) to be a nutritional item (not a medication), since they are derived from industrial hemp plants. If you live in the United States, this means you don’t need a prescription and can legally purchase and consume Cannabidiol in any state.

Of the 85+ non-psychoactive cannabinoids, Cannabidiol (CBD) is the most widely known.

Where Does CBD come from?

CBD is extracted and separated from specific varieties of cannabis, often known as hemp. Chemically, CBD is one of 80+ chemical substances known as cannabinoids, which are all found in the cannabis plant. CBD is the second most abundant compound in hemp, typically representing up to 40% of its extracts. We recommend storing our products in a cool, dry location, out of open sunlight. The typical medicine cabinet or pantry should be fine.

Because our oils are extracted from hemp, you might hear this type of product referred to in a few ways: CBD-rich hemp oil, hemp derived CBD oil, CBD-rich cannabis oil, or hemp extracts. CBD oil is unique from typical hempseed oil sold cheaply in the grocery store because it utilizes all parts of the hemp plant instead of only the seeds. This method of extraction produces a more nutritionally robust oil.

What Are Terpenes?

The cannabis plant consists of a wide variety of chemicals and compounds. About 140 of these belong to a large class of aromatic, organic hydrocarbons known as terpenes (pronounced tur-peens).

Terpenes, unlike cannabinoids, are responsible for the aroma of cannabis. The FDA and other agencies have generally recognized terpenes as “safe”. Terpenes act on receptors and neurotransmitters; they are prone to combine with or dissolve in lipids or fats; they act as serotonin uptake inhibitors (similar to antidepressants); they enhance norepinephrine activity (similar to tricyclic antidepressants); they increase dopamine activity; and they augment GABA (the “downer” neurotransmitter that counters glutamate, the “upper”).
